Looked over everything but still have some questions?

We've probably had them asked to us before, so here are some of our most common answers to the things people have wondered.

FAQs

Can Lakeview really benefit everyone?

Yes! Eligible Lakeview Academy families may receive an Ohio tax credit of up to $1,500 for qualifying tuition paid.

Families may also request scholarship assistance to help offset tuition costs.

In addition, donors to our partnered Scholarship Granting Organization may be eligible for an Ohio tax credit of up to $1,500 for qualifying contributions.

Can we just go on the field trips?

We offer à la carte registration options if you would just like to participate in our Field Learning Activities (aka field trips)—or Physical Education Time or In-Person Classes.

Lakeview Academy's formal school designation also allows us to pursue school and group rates at many of our Field Learning Activity locations, helping us keep costs as reasonable as possible for families.

Is this a co-op?

Some of our families call us a co-op, and that is completely fine! But we like to think of ourselves as a microschool.

Lakeview Academy is officially recognized by the Ohio Department of Education & Workforce as a Non-Chartered, Non-Public (NCNP) School, historically known as an “08 School” in Ohio.

Why did you form this?

We set out to create a group of local homeschoolers to go on field trips together and create an overall community nearby. We also wanted to form something that brought people together but also had drop-off-class options, similar to post-secondary education models.

We began doing our due diligence and discovered many benefits to concurrently forming Lakeview Academy, and we would not have to minimize anything anyone was seeking.

This brought our dream to fruition in ways we never imagined!

What days and times do you meet?

In-Person Classes are held Mondays from approximately 9:30 AM–3:00 PM. Physical Education Time is held on Tuesdays from 12:00–2:00 PM. Field Learning Activities are held on Wednesdays, with individual activity times varying throughout the day.

These are general programming windows; exact schedules vary by program and activity.

Do families stay with their students at all times?

No! Most of our programming can be utilized as drop-off programming. In-Person Classes are drop-off for ages 5+, and Field Learning Activities are drop-off for ages 6+.

Families are responsible for transportation to and from all programming locations.

Please note: All staff and volunteers who remain with students are required to undergo and pass applicable background checks.

Do you offer payment plans?

Yes! We offer payment plans, and scholarship assistance is also available for eligible families as funding allows.

We do not want finances to be the only reason a family cannot join us. If money is tight, please reach out or submit a Scholarship Assistance Request. We are always happy to help however we can!

Do we still need to notify our superintendent of our home-education?

If your student is officially enrolled with Lakeview Academy, we may report their enrollment to their local school district, so you do not also need to submit a home-education notification for that student.

Families participating in Lakeview Learning without enrolling in Lakeview Academy may continue homeschooling and notifying their local superintendent as usual.

What is a Non-Chartered, Non-Public (NCNP) School?

Non-Chartered, Non-Public (NCNP) schools are schools that, because of sincerely held religious beliefs, choose not to be chartered by the State of Ohio.

Lakeview Academy is officially recognized by the Ohio Department of Education & Workforce as an NCNP school and appears on the state's list of recognized schools.

Is this secular or non-secular?

While our NCNP school, Lakeview Academy, was formed because of sincerely held religious beliefs, all of our programming and instruction are secular in nature.

We welcome families of all backgrounds and beliefs, and all of our offerings are fully inclusive.

Do students need to participate in state testing?

No. Students enrolled with Lakeview Academy are not required to participate in Ohio's state testing.

Families may, of course, independently choose standardized testing or other assessments for their own educational purposes.

What ages can participate?

Our programming serves families with children of many ages! In-Person Classes are available for ages 5–18, PE Time for ages 3–18, and Field Learning Activities for ages 5–18, with younger siblings welcome when accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Students who are age 5 on or before December 31 of the school year may also be eligible to enroll with Lakeview Academy.

Do I have to pay for ages under 5?

It depends on the programming. PE Time is available beginning at age 3, while Field Learning Activities are generally available beginning at age 5.

Younger siblings may attend eligible Field Learning Activities with a registered sibling and parent or guardian, and any applicable registration cost will be listed for that activity.

What is your address?

Our home base and location of our In-Person Classes is in Lorain, Ohio; our Physical Education Time meets in Elyria, Ohio; and we visit our Field Learning Activities within one hour of Lorain County. The exact addresses will only be shared with current families for safety reasons.

Is there really a tax credit that could offset our payments toward you?

Yes! Eligible families enrolled with Lakeview Academy may receive an Ohio income tax credit of up to $1,500 for qualifying tuition paid.

The amount depends on your individual eligibility and financial situation.

For more information, refer to O.R.C. 5747.75 and consult a tax professional.

What if we have a tradition of sending in our NOI with our kids?

Technically, it is the parent's responsibility to notify their local school district of their intent to provide home education. However, if your child is enrolled on Lakeview Academy's official roster, Lakeview can submit the required enrollment information to the local school district on your behalf.

If your child participates in Lakeview Learning programming but is not enrolled with Lakeview Academy, you remain responsible for submitting your home-education notification as usual.

Money is extremely tight right now. Do you offer any scholarships?

Yes! Scholarship assistance is available beginning with the 2026–2027 school year, as funding allows.

At this time, SGO-funded scholarships are available to eligible families with students enrolled on the Lakeview Academy roster. If finances are the only thing keeping you from joining us, please reach out. We want to help however we can!

Do you have any vaccination requirements for students?

No. We firmly believe in and support family choice surrounding medical care for their children.

Our emergency medical form simply asks families to indicate whether vaccinations are up to date or the student is exempt so that we have accurate information available in the event of an emergency.

What if I have a question not listed here?
