Lakeview Learning is the realization of a shared dream between two dedicated homeschool moms and passionate advocates for innovative education. With a combined background in homeschooling, vocational rehabilitation and education, social work, and community engagement, the two envisioned a learning environment that transcended conventional boundaries, blending the strengths of homeschooling with the structure and social opportunities of a traditional school environment.

As home-educating parents, their passion for personalized education and hands-on learning experiences blossomed and was instrumental in creating a learning environment that not only meets but exceeds today’s standards of learning. Their commitment to fostering a nurturing and inclusive environment ensures that every student and family feels valued and supported throughout their educational journey. We look forward to meeting you and helping your children along on their journey!

What to expect during the 2025–2026 school year:

We will commence our drop-off, In-Person Classes for students beginning on Mondays this September. These days will bring our students together for group projects and discussions while providing a traditional school experience. We will offer music theory, choir, public speaking & debate, and art & STEAM classes for sure. But photography and philosophy are also in the works as possibilities!

Our Field Learning Activities will continue in the fall changing to weekly instructor-led programming with additional exploration time that can allow everyone to socialize further and discover even more at places like:

Cleveland Metroparks Zoo; Greater Cleveland Aquarium; Back to the Wild; Rock and Roll Hall of Fame; Great Lakes Science Center; Cleveland Botanical Gardens; Cleveland Museum of Art; Holden Arboretum; Cleveland Museum of Natural History; Lake Erie Nature and Science Center; Cleveland History Center; area metro parks; historical societies; police stations; fire stations; city service departments; beaches; farms; and more!

We will also have weekly Physical Education Time that offers a mixture of free-play and organized game periods, so our students get exposure to and gain experience in the same structured games that traditional school kids receive in gym class.

As a part of our unique educational approach, we empower families to educate their children in ways they see fit during our time apart. Families dictate their children's learning paths while they are away from us, and this is what blends the best of the homeschooling world with a traditional school experience, complete with a multitude of field trips, classes, gym time, and recess.

These areas combined allow individualized learning to happen and provide the best possible student outcomes while fostering personal growth, a love of learning, and promoting community enrichment—fully bringing "Learning Reimagined" to fruition.

Meet Our Instructors

Sarah Moser—Music Theory & Choir

Sarah Moser has taught music and directed choirs from infants to retirees. She earned a bachelor's degree in vocal music and a Master of Education from Truman State University in Missouri after growing up in St. Louis. She taught elementary general music for two years in Kansas City, where she met her husband Jay. After moving to Cleveland, they had three boys, whom they homeschool.

At church, she currently conducts choir and plays handbells. She also has experience in middle and high school choir, as well as working with students with special needs. Sarah teaches music and is on the board of her homeschool co-op, Apex Co-Op. For fun, she is also an Advanced Babywearing Educator with Babywearing of Northeast Ohio.

Tom Hall—Public Speaking & Debate

Thomas Hall is a certified instructor at Lakeview Academy and a member of the Lakeview Learning leadership team. A husband, father of three, and firefighter/paramedic, Tom brings a grounded, real-world perspective to education—combining life experience with a passion for helping kids build confidence and character.

With degrees in English and philosophy, along with years of experience in speech, debate, and youth coaching, Tom teaches students to think critically, speak clearly, and engage in meaningful, respectful dialogue—skills that matter in and outside the classroom. His classes emphasize strong communication and leadership skills—all within a supportive, encouraging environment.

This year, Tom launched the Amherst Chess Player's Society, a local initiative aimed at building community and fostering strategic thinking through the game of chess. In his free time, he enjoys exploring the outdoors, staying active with his family, and—of course—playing chess. He’s excited to be part of your child’s learning journey.

Melissa Walling—Art & STEAM

Melissa Walling is an artist with over 15 years of creative experience and a Bachelors of Fine Art and Graphic Design. She’s also a licensed substitute teacher with experience working with a wide range of ages, and as a mom of two young daughters, she has a deep appreciation for how kids learn, explore, and express themselves through art.

Melissa teaches fun, hands-on art classes for both kids and adults. She’s passionate about encouraging kids to be creative, to be bold, and to think through problems in imaginative ways. One of her favorite things is watching their confidence grow and seeing the pride they feel when they create something totally their own.

Melissa also runs her own creative studio, Jupiter & June, where she continues to share her love of art with learners of all ages.

A Vision Toward the Future

Lakeview Learning offers unique educational experiences, where learning is reimagined, and every child is encouraged to explore their potential in a supportive and dynamic environment.

The team's shared vision continues to inspire the learning community, driving the goal of providing an enriching and transformative educational journey and providing endless opportunities for all students.
