Lakeview Learning is the realization of a shared dream between two dedicated homeschool moms and passionate advocates for innovative education. With a combined background in homeschooling, vocational rehabilitation and education, social work, and community engagement, the two envisioned a learning environment that transcended conventional boundaries, blending the strengths of homeschooling with the structure and social opportunities of a traditional school environment.
As home-educating parents, their passion for personalized education and hands-on learning experiences blossomed and was instrumental in creating a learning environment that not only meets but exceeds today’s standards of learning. Their commitment to fostering a nurturing and inclusive environment ensures that every student and family feels valued and supported throughout their educational journey. We look forward to meeting you and helping your children along on their journey!
We are continuing and expanding our drop-off, In-Person Classes for students on Mondays this September. These days bring our students together for collaborative learning, group projects, and discussions while providing a traditional school experience, complete with recess! We offer classes in art & STEAM, music, public speaking, debate, yoga, and natural science studies, and we are constantly expanding our offerings.
Our Physical Education time will continue collaborating with Elyria Parks & Recreation on Tuesdays, where children can exercise both their bodies and their minds in gym class! These two hours offer a mix of free-play and organized game periods, so our students get exposure to and experience in the same structured games that traditional school kids receive in P.E. and beyond.
Our Field Learning Activities are continuing this fall, offering weekly instructor-led programming with additional exploration time that allows everyone to socialize further and discover even more at places like:
CLE Hopkins International Airport; Cleveland Metroparks Zoo; Greater Cleveland Aquarium; Back to the Wild; International Women's Air and Space Museum, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame; Great Lakes Science Center; Cleveland Botanical Gardens; Cleveland Museum of Art; Holden Arboretum; Cleveland Museum of Natural History; Lake Erie Nature and Science Center; Cleveland History Center; area metro parks; historical societies; police stations; fire stations; city service departments; beaches; farms; and more!
Families also have the option to enroll through Lakeview Academy, our recognized Nonchartered Nonpublic (NCNP) school. This pathway allows students to be officially enrolled in a private school while maintaining the flexibility and individualized learning opportunities that many home-educating families value. Families enrolled through Lakeview Academy do not submit a Home Education Notification to their local school district, as the school handles enrollment reporting while families remain actively involved in supporting and guiding their children's educational journey.
As part of our unique educational approach, we empower families to continue their children's learning in ways that best fit their needs while we are apart. Our educational programs provide meaningful instruction, enrichment, and community experiences, while families remain actively involved in shaping learning beyond our scheduled classes, activities, and field experiences. This blends the best of the homeschooling world with a traditional school experience, complete with field trips, classes, gym, lunchtime, and recess.
These opportunities allow individualized learning to flourish while providing meaningful social, educational, and community experiences. Together, they foster personal growth, a love of learning, and community enrichment—fully bringing "Learning Reimagined" to fruition.

Sarah Moser has taught music and directed choirs from infants to retirees. She earned a bachelor's degree in vocal music and a Master of Education from Truman State University in Missouri after growing up in St. Louis. She taught elementary general music for two years in Kansas City, where she met her husband Jay. After moving to Cleveland, they had three boys, whom they homeschool.
At church, she currently conducts choir and plays handbells. She also has experience in middle and high school choir, as well as working with students with special needs. Sarah teaches music and is on the board of her homeschool co-op, Apex Co-Op. For fun, she is also an Advanced Babywearing Educator with Babywearing of Northeast Ohio.
Thomas Hall is a certified instructor at Lakeview Academy and a member of the Lakeview Learning leadership team. A husband, father of four, and firefighter/paramedic, Tom brings a grounded, real-world perspective to education—combining life experience with a passion for helping kids build confidence and character.
With degrees in English and philosophy, along with years of experience in speech, debate, and youth coaching, Tom teaches students to think critically, speak clearly, and engage in meaningful, respectful dialogue—skills that matter in and outside the classroom. His classes emphasize strong communication and leadership skills, all within a supportive, encouraging environment.
Last year, Tom launched the Amherst Chess Players' Society, a local initiative aimed at building community and fostering strategic thinking through the game of chess. In his free time, he enjoys exploring the outdoors, staying active with his family, and—of course—playing chess. He’s excited to be part of your child’s learning journey.
Melissa Walling is an artist with over 15 years of creative experience and a Bachelor's of Fine Art and Graphic Design. She’s also a licensed substitute teacher with experience working with a wide range of ages, and as a mom of two young daughters, she has a deep appreciation for how kids learn, explore, and express themselves through art.
Melissa teaches fun, hands-on art classes for both kids and adults. She’s passionate about encouraging kids to be creative, to be bold, and to think through problems in imaginative ways. One of her favorite things is watching their confidence grow and seeing the pride they feel when they create something totally their own.
Melissa also runs her own creative studio, Jupiter & June, where she continues to share her love of art with learners of all ages.
Kate Maher is a naturalist, science educator, and the founder of Explore Outdoors. She brings over 20 years of experience teaching children and families in local and national parks, museums, nature centers, camps, science classrooms, and after-school programs.
Her experience ranges from leading hikes through the giant redwoods as a park ranger for Muir Woods National Monument, to handling live snakes at the California Academy of Sciences, to leading canoe tours through Pacific Northwest waterways, and helping students from the city connect with a quiet rainforest after dark. She also served as the Senior Naturalist at the French Creek Nature Center for two years, deepening her work with local ecosystems and community-based education.
She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Biological Anthropology and a Master of Education in Science Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in outdoor and environmental education, and is passionate about helping students build curiosity, confidence, and connection through nature.
Lakeview Learning offers unique educational experiences, where learning is reimagined, and every child is encouraged to explore their potential in a supportive and dynamic environment.
The team's shared vision continues to inspire the learning community, driving the goal of providing an enriching and transformative educational journey and providing endless opportunities for all students.
